The full list of dive shops in Bali

There are so many PADI and SSI dive centres in Bali that it can be hard to know which dive shops to pick to go diving in Bali. I cannot guarantee this list is 100% complete as sometimes dive shops come and go. Still, I listed all the dive shops I could find in the most popular areas for scuba divers in the famous Indonesia island of South East Asia: Sanur, Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Penida, Padang Bai, Amed, Tulamben and Pemuteran. I sorted the names by area in Bali from the southeast to the northwest and in alphabetical order.

How to choose the right dive shop for your dive trip in Bali?

Nusa Lembongan - Dive shops Bali

The first thing you may consider is if the staff speak your native language if you don’t feel 100% confident in English. Price will of course be a way to decide, but as a rule of thumb for many things, the cheapest is usually not the best idea.

Don’t hesitate to shop around, most dive centres in Bali have now their website so you can check what they offer. The best ones will detail the kind of services they provide and will let you a schedule of the dive sites they will visit in the coming days, according to the weather forecast.

The final decision will be about the kind of atmosphere you want while spending the day with their team. Often you can tell the level of professionalism and friendliness with an email, but in doubt, just give them a call. It’s easy nowadays to give a long-distance call for free with apps like Skype or Whatsapp.

Important to note:

  • to scuba dive Crystal Bay and Manta Point, you can book with dive centres in Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan or Sanur
  • to scuba dive the USAT Liberty shipwreck, you can book with dives centres in Tulamben or Amed
  • to scuba dive in Menjangan Island, you need to book with dive centres in Pemuteran

Almost all dive centres can offer to take you anywhere scuba diving around Bali as part of their dive safari package. You will need to bear in mind that there will be an additional cost for at least the transportation in that case.

Here is a non-exhaustive checklist of points you may want to check to have as little surprises as possible:

  • How many scuba divers can go with one dive guide at most?
  • How often do they renew their rental gear?
  • Do they have special space on board or at the dive centre for underwater photographers transporting delicate equipment?
  • How many local staff do they employ? How many foreign staff do they employ?
  • Do they train their Divemaster and Instructor to the best responsible diving practices?
  • Can you see pictures of dive guides, instructors or clients touching or feeding marine life on the website’s pictures?
  • Do they have a commitment to reduce plastic waste and save fresh water?
  • Do they offer reef-safe sunscreen?

If you have any other ideas for things to check to choosing a dive centre, please let me know in the comments!
