Diving in Italy is one of the best in Europe with famous diving spots such as Portofino marine reserve and famous dives such as Baia underwater archaeological park. Italy is a great destination for scuba divers who love archaeological diving and groupers. A little less known, you can also give a try at diving in Sardinia or Sicilia islands.

The marine life in Italy is mostly about groupers, octopus, barracudas, moray eels and nudibranchs. It’s the right place to go for both beginners and experienced divers. Due to the water temperatures, regarding scuba gear, it is most common to scuba dive there in a 7 mm wetsuit. The best time of the year is often from July to October. The best dive sites can be reached by boat.

With European low-cost airlines, in less than 2 hours and for less than a hundred euros, we can escape for the weekend to dream

Diving Portofino : scuba diving & dolce farniente in Italy

The way things perfectly happen sometimes has surprised me more than once. This time, I got a combo of two interesting coincidences. My last scuba diving trip before moving from France to Scotland was in Italy, to dive the underwater archaeological park of Baia near Naples. My first trip after moving back from Scotland to France was again to dive in another underwater landmark

Dive into history: underwater Pompeii in Pozzuoli, Italy

Since my archaeological surprises in Turkey, I should say I developed a keen interested in finding new destinations with archaeological diving experiences. While doing some research, I quickly spotted Alexandria in Egypt and Pozzuoli in Italy. While Alexandria requires specific authorizations, just before moving to Scotland, I decided, in less than a week, thanks to a reward ticket with my miles, to go to Naples
